The difference being that seasonal employees work for a semester to semester basis and almost always invited back every semester. There are three semester in a year fall (Aug-Dec), spring (Jan/Feb-May/Jun) and summer (Jun-Jul). Permanent employees work year-round.

    Location

Our office is located in Four Oaks, North Carolina. All work is done in-person. Travel is required. Travel to and from the worksite and accommodation, normally camping, is provided.

Will this role help me gain experience?

As a Historical Interpreter with Camp Flintlock you will gain valuable experience. The primary task is interpreting history through experiential learning. Basically, you help the students relate to historical events and figures while instructing them in domestic skills from the 18th century. Time management, supervision of children, working with people from diverse backgrounds, interpersonal communication, and public speaking are all skills that will be honed.

Outside of interpreting history, staff members also will set up and breakdown historical tents, coordinate with parents, teachers and administrators.

    Salary

Pay is done monthly and starts out at $80-90/day. All field trip staff receive three bonuses per year (one in the spring, two in the fall). Raises are based on skill level. As you learn more about the job you will receive raises. Skills include, knowing our field trip activates and demonstrations, and ability to play fife and/or drum.

    Perks and Benefits

The largest benefit is knowing you have made an impact on students’ lives and have given them an experience they would not have gotten otherwise. Since we follow an academic calendar we have time off whenever schools do. Employees are given a minimum of a week off for Christmas/New Years, and a week at the end of July/beginning of August. We also have time off for Thanksgiving. This not paid time off. As an employee you have full use of our campsite including shooting range for your private events, historical clothing and accoutrements should you want to do some reenacting, and camping equipment. Historical clothing is provided.

    Qualifications

There are no minimum education or experience requirements. Applicants must be able to pass a criminal background check. Violent crimes are a disqualifier. The only true requirement is a desire to serve others and a strong work ethic.

Does this job require work authorization?

Camp Flintlock participates in E-Verified and all applicants must be able to legally work in the United States. Additionally, applicants must be able to work with children.

    Our Reputation

Camp Flintlock is a living history company that specializes in year-round hands-on 18th century colonial American field trips and summer camps. We conduct around 150 field trips each year spanning six different states. We also participate in a dozen special events in support of the National Parks Service as well as various state historic sites and museums. Our service has been around since 1999 and most of our customers return making Camp Flintlock an annual tradition for many schools.

    Our Values

Camp Flintlock’s vision is to be the very best historical field trip available. We seek to interpret and present history to students in a truthful and accurate way that is appropriate for the grade level. Moreover, we recognize that even though we are in education, we are first and foremost a service. We are here to serve others. We treat every field trip like a wedding; whereas everything needs to be just right and as good as we can make it regardless of whatever hardships we have to persevere through.

    The Camp Flintlock Experience

This career path is special because there is no one that does what we do, over as broad of an area as we do it, with as much success as do. There are many historic sites and museums that have massive visitation, but the experience is impersonal. Camp Flintlock takes the skills of the 18th century, throws in a bit of history, a hands-on activity and puts the student in a semi-immersive experience where they can personally relate to the material. Furthermore, Camp Flintlock is arguably the most equitable as every student is engaged in the activity and if they apply themselves will walk away with a craft(s) they made.
