    SALARY: $13.00 - $15.00 Hourly

    Under the direction of the Museum Supervisor, is responsible for the administration, planning and operations of the Fort Nisqually Living History Museum's Museum Store in an efficient and effective manner with attention to maximizing profitability while furthering the Museum's mission. 

    In the performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees are expected to conform to the following:

    • Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.

    • Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.
    • Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
    Ensure that Museum Store is a continuation of the educational and curatorial mission of the museum.

    Analyze opportunities to improve the efficiency, product mix, and overall profitability of the museum's earned income activities.

    Create an annual business plan and budget that includes a merchandising direction, inventory control standards and practices, customer service standards and practices, staffing levels, budget and other strategies to maximize earned income while maintaining high quality customer service and furthering the Museum's mission; follow merchandise plan and ensure products are selected, purchased, organized, priced and displayed to maximize sales in Gift Shop.

    Communicate with vendors and suppliers, obtain quotes and view product lines; attend a variety of local gift shows to acquire optimal merchandise within budget.

    Promote and sell Fort Nisqually Museum Store merchandise and Fort Nisqually admissions, programs and activities, both in person and phone, as appropriate.

    Utilize POS inventory control systems; develop methods related to retail operations, procedures and guidelines, including receipt analysis, inventory methods, merchandise security, display and pricing methods; assure the proper collection, processing, security and deposit of daily cash receipts; distribute cash drawers and change to revenue centers; establish procedures for stock management, control and security; ensure cash-point procedures are maintained according to established Metro

    Parks Tacoma procedures; make recommendations to staff for improved cash processing procedures as necessary.

    Greet and interact with customers; be able to confer with customers by telephone or in person in order to provide information about facilities, programs and services; provide information, assistance and directions to visitors and the general public; receive and resolve complaints and issues as required; assist lost children and others as appropriate.

    Inventory and order supplies for Fort staff and other operations as needed and within budget.

    Develop and ensure adherence to policies and procedures related to Museum Store retail operations.

    Oversee all aspects of the Gift Shop's inventory control and point of sales system.

    Collaborate on the development of custom products that reflect the Museum's brand identity, further the visitor experience, and contribute to elevating the Museum's visibility.

    Manage special retail events throughout the year to increase earned revenue and raise the Museum's visibility in the community.

    Work collaboratively with Museum staff and volunteers to maximize revenue generation through on-site sales and other retail opportunities.

    Set qualitative and quantitative performance goals for staff to meet overall strategic retail goals.

    Perform other duties as assigned to achieve greatest success and serve the Museum's Mission. 

    Book private rentals and/or serve as a facility monitor when necessary, ensuring rented area is clean and ready for contracted activity, and provide key control for the facility.

    Perform related duties as assigned.
    Any combination equivalent to: Associate's degree in Business Administration or related field and a minimum of four (4) years of experience in retail, merchandise, display or Museum Store sales. 

    Valid Washington driver's license.
    Obtain a valid First Aid and CPR Card within the probationary period.
    Hours and days per week may vary.  Averages 29 hours per week.  This position typically works Wednesday - Saturday.

    Noise, dust, pollen and insects.

    Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate computer keyboard, other office equipment and a motor vehicle.
    Standing for extended periods of time.
    Walking, kneeling, bending or crouching.
    Hearing and speaking to exchange information and make presentations.
    Seeing to read and develop materials, prepare records and reports.
    Walking over rough or uneven surfaces during field trips.
    Ability to lift at least 20 lbs to shoulder height.
    Ability to assist individuals with mobility limitations including, but not limited, in and out of
    vehicles and up and down stairs.

    Contact with dissatisfied or abusive individuals.
    May work in close contact with wild and dangerous animals.
