Primrose Farm - St. Charles, Illinois
Primrose is looking to hire a part-time Agriculture Interpreter to begin work immediately. The position is 16-20 hours a week year-round. Interpreters lead farm programs and assist with livestock care and agricultural activities. Position requires that you be willing and able to wear period clothing and work outdoors in a farm setting in a variety of weather conditions. You must be at least 18 years old to work as an Agriculture Interpreter.
Education – Two year degree in Education, Interpretation, History or Agricultural Sciences OR the equivalent in other work experience.
Personal – Enthusiastic, friendly, committed to education, interest in agriculture, must like public speaking and to engage people in interactive educational/recreational activities. Work record that shows reliability, initiative, excellent interpersonal skills and productivity.
Knowledge and Ability - Interest in agricultural science and interpretation. Be willing to continually increase knowledge of agricultural history. Experience working with children is a plus. Must possess or be willing to obtain a valid, State of Illinois driver’s license.
Under the direction and supervision of the Superintendent of Parks, Assistant Superintendent of Parks and Manager of Farm Programs and Interpretive Services, the Agriculture Interpreter shall complete his/her assigned duties to the best of his/her abilities. He/she will offer suggestions of better ways to accomplish jobs and being ever mindful of the best interests of the St Charles Park District. This position requires the knowledge and ability to:
Work cooperatively and harmoniously with the general public and cooperating agencies, as well as fellow employees.
Effectively communicate orally.
Work outdoors in a farm setting and in varying weather conditions including inclement and severe weather.
Assist with livestock care, milking and other agricultural activities.
Lead weekend, weekday and evening educational recreational programs at Primrose Farm.
Assist with preparation for and presentation of any other interpretive or educational activities that may arise, including special events, summer camps, and traveling programs.
Become knowledgeable about the culture and agricultural history of the Fox River Valley and the St Charles Park District Natural Areas.
Obtain and keep current a Certification in CPR and First Aid.
Assist in the training of volunteers, interns and seasonal employees.
Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties and to support all aspects of the Park District’s safety program.
The Agriculture Interpreter will also:
Assist with maintenance and light construction duties.
Wear period clothing as part of living history programming.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
