    Description

    GCV&M is seeking applicants to join our historical interpretation staff for the 2025 season. This position is intended to engage, educate, and entertain visitors through interpretive programming, to provide a positive visitor experience, and to assist in the daily operations of GCV&M. Interpreters are historically costumed, public-facing employees who connect guests to the past by engaging them in hands-on activities, demonstrating historical tasks and trades, and other related activities. 

    Requirements

      SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • Models excellent guest services through thoughtful engagement and interactions with museum visitors.
    • Uses modern interpretive techniques to help visitors connect to the rich diversity of the 19th century.
    • Conduct historic foodways programming including historic kitchens, historic dining, and other food-related interpretive programming 
    • Conducts interpretive and educational programs that appropriately engage students of all ages.
    • Participates in content training and professional development to enhance the delivery of the museum’s interpretive program. 
    • Supports the maintenance and protection of Village buildings, grounds, animals, collections, and clothing. 

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. 
    • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse public in an enthusiastic, friendly, and open manner. 
    • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and utilize basic cooking knowledge
    • Comfortable working around fire using both an open hearth and woodstove
    • Demonstrated ability to provide consistent, quality customer service. 
    • Ability to develop a working knowledge of site programs and educational content. 

    SALARY AND BENEFITS:

    Salary: The hourly rate for a candidate selected for this position is $15.50 per hour.
