Livestock Educator
RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible to the Farm & Horticulture Coordinator
CLASSIFICATION: This position is classified as part-time and is non-exempt with regard to overtime compensation.
SUPERVISON: Assists in the supervision of interns and volunteer groups and must be able to
express the museum vison and plans to these individuals
COORDINATION: The livestock educator works closely with the Farm and Horticulture Coordinator to apply and coordinate animal husbandry techniques to enhance the quality of the museum’s educational programs.
DUTIES:
- Assist with the monitoring of health and behavior of animals
- Preparing diets and following feeding schedules
- Completes daily and weekly cleaning duties
- Perform public demonstrations
- Provide the public informative, accurate, and engaging information about Hale Farm and Village, 19th century farming and gardening techniques, the history of Ohio, and 19th century general American history
- Wear period appropriate clothing during different climates.
- Maintain the physical cleanliness of the program utensils and of the site.
- Undertakes other specific temporary duties as assigned by the Farm & Horticulture Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Farm animal experience is preferred
- Demonstrates interest in animal husband and plants
- This position is physical in nature and candidates must be able to stand for extended periods of time, lift heavy objects and work in a variety of conditions
- Must be available for weekends and special events
- An interest in working outdoors preforming manual labor in all weather conditions.
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision once trained
- Strong communication and organizational skills
