Paid Interpretation & Education Internship at Billings Farm & Museum

    Description: Billings Farm & Museum is seeking an Interpretation & Education Intern for the summer of 2019. The intern will work with staff in the Interpretation & Education Department on various projects, including evaluating and testing programs for our Junior Farmer Camp and developing new mission-based programs for general visitors and school groups. The intern will also gain hands-on education skills by helping to organize and lead the Junior Farmer Camp for three weeks of their internship. Additional projects and duties include leading educational programs for various audiences and researching and suggesting new programming initiatives.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Assist with development and organization of Junior Farmer Camp
    • Lead the Junior Farmer Camp for three weeks with support from staff
    • Research content related to Billings Farm & Museum
    • Assist in creating, testing, and evaluating programs
    • Assist in training and mentoring interpreters to lead new programs
    • Lead educational programs for both general and group visitors


    • Student (graduate level preferred) in Museum Studies, Education, or similar field
    • Ability to work 40 hours/week (usually 9-5), occasional weekends and holidays
    • Available to work June 3 – August 9 (dates somewhat negotiable)

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Interest in agriculture, foodways, and rural culture
    • Comfortable being around farm animals and teaching programs in a barn setting
    • Experience working with school groups and/or summer camps
    • Ability to work independently and with a team in a flexible, fast-paced environment
    • Willingness to try new things and experiment with programming


    • Class credit (arranged by the intern through their college or university)
    • On-site housing provided
    • $2,000 stipend
