Get in depth experience of museum administration and interpretation at Garfield Farm & Tavern Museum in northern Illinois, a singular, historically intact 375 acre former 1840s Illinois prairie farmstead and teamster inn being restored as an 1840s living history farm and inn museum. Successful candidate will experience all aspects of day to day running of the site which focuses on history, farming and the environment.

Internship can be tailored to met applicant's educational needs though a 3-6 month commitment is given preference. Master's candidates preferred  in the fields of historical administration, museums studies, American studies, public history or related fields will be considered. Interpretation, volunteer supervision, site maintenance, animal care (Devon oxen, merino sheep, Black Java chickens, Narragansett turkeys, and Pilgrim geese), historic gardening, and special events coordination will be stressed. Development and presentation of a program for public presentation will also be encouraged. Garfield Farm Museum is also heavily involved in the advocacy of open space (land) preservation, the preservation of rare genetic farm animal species as well as the accurate presentation of the 1840's farm and inn. The 2018 season includes a 1906 dairy barn restoration and a construction of a collections and archives building. The annual summer archeaological investigation of the 1835 log house site resumes. This  is an excellent opportunity to participate in every aspect of living history museum management. Housing  and a stipend are offered. Please direct all resumes to Jerome Johnson Garfield Farm Museum, Box 403, LaFox, IL, 60147-0403. Garfield Farm Museum is located 40 miles west of Chicago and 5 miles west of Geneva, IL.
