    Historic Trades Interpreter - Blacksmith - Full-Time

    Department: 143 Operations-Trades
    Location: Fishers, IN


    POSITION PURPOSE: To provide engaging blacksmithing and trades experiences while serving as an interpreter in Conner Prairie's experience areas.

    NATURE AND SCOPE: The Historic Trades Interpreter - blacksmith - provides all audiences with unique engaging craft and trade experiences. Person will serve as an interpreter in Conner Prairie's craft and trades areas in 1836 Prairietown. The Interpreter will also take part in implementation of all craft and trade activities and programs. This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week with weekend and holiday work required.


    • Work inthe blacksmith trades areawithin Conner Prairie's historic areas
    • Facilitate blacksmithing experiences within Conner Prairie's experience areas, classrooms, and trade areas
    • Take part in the implementation and execution of trades and craft experiences at Conner Prairie
    • Adheres and supports Conner Prairie's Mission, Values Statements and Code of Conduct
    • Other duties as assigned; not limited to those within the scope of this position


    • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED.
    • Previous experience in blacksmithing is desired.
    • Ability to engage a wide range of audiences in craft and trades activities, in a diverse learning environment
    • Ability to work in a team structure
    • Flexible and adaptable
    • Self motivated with an ability to carry through independently
    • Interested in challenging self to learn new skills
    • Excellent oral communication skills

     Activities may be both indoors and outdoors, in temperature below 20 degrees and above 95. Activities involve handling tools, being around open flame, and heat, handling chemicals, and liquids.
