    Education requirement

    A bachelor’s degree preferably specializing in specific areas such as Museum Studies, History or Non-profit Business Administration. 

     Job Responsibilities

    • 1.     Serve as the leader of the museum. Recruit and supervise employees and volunteers.  
    • 2.     Provide stewardship of the museum’s assets, ensuring the safety, security and maintenance of the collections and the facility.
    • 3.     Serve as the chief spokesperson of the museum. Promote the museum and exhibits through TV and newspaper interviews and organization appearances.  Ensure all forms of communications including marketing materials, social media postings and the website reflect a positive image of the museum and its reputation.
    • 4.     Create and maintain displays that showcase the museum’s collections. Develop collaborative partnerships with other museums.
    • 5.     Acquire knowledge of the museums operations, state and local history and the museum’s artifacts in order to evaluate accessions and removals.
    • 6.     Collaborate with the Board and staff to create a Mission Statement and an annual determination of goals.
    • 7.     Create educational opportunities that relate to and encourage participation of diverse constituencies including younger visitors
    • 8.     Financial management:  Ensure that income, expenses and overhead are held within the annual budget prepared by the Board of Directors.  Identify and pursue financial sources of private and government funding and grants.
    • 9.     Create and administer a master calendar.
    • 10.            Supervise the gift store ensuring that the quality and displays of the merchandise optimize sales.
    • 11.            Optimize and maintain the website to increase the visibility of the museum.
    • 12.             Participate in Board meetings and provide timely financial information as well as metrics and statistics that measure performance and attendance.
