    TILLERS SEEKS AN EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

    Our ideal candidate is:

    Resourceful: Tillers is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a total budget less than $1 million. For almost 45 years we have been proud to make global and local impacts on a tight budget.

    Collaborative: Tillers believes that everyone brings valuable ideas as we work toward food security, climate resilience, preserving and sharing history, all while building stronger communities.

    Creative: Tillers fosters an attitude of experimentation in all that we do.

    Organized: Tillers, as a small non-profit, is nimble enough to- literally, in the case of our blacksmith’s shop -have ‘many irons in the fire.’ We use our resources, which include a 200-acre farm, shops, a museum, a guest house, draft animals, in multiple ways every day to help share our rural heritage locally and globally.

    Curious: Tillers enriches the lives of many people by sharing skills and knowledge. Each person and each skill has intrinsic value from which we can learn and teach.

    Genuine: Tillers is, fundamentally, about helping people. We see the potential in people- and in the places and situations they occupy.

    Optimal Qualifications:

    Leadership and Management

    -Skills in organizational leadership, budgeting, and international development.

    - Skills to plan, monitor, and evaluate staffing needs. Fund Development and Donor Relations

    - Capability to develop and implement successful funding campaigns.

    - Skills for maintain and grow a donor base to expand Tillers’ impacts while growing an endowment.

    Education and Technical Skills

    - Bachelor's degree from an accredited university with experience in nonprofit administration (Master’s degree preferred).

    - Communication skills in writing, public speaking, and digital formats.- Ability to work in a multicultural environment.

    - Skills for working in a digital environment including Microsoft Suite, cloud services, budgeting software, video conferencing, etc.

    - Fluency in multiple languages is a plus.

    - Experience in Peace Corps or similar development experience is a plus.

    Tillers’ domestic office is located in Scotts, Michigan, about 12 miles east of downtown Kalamazoo. The Executive Director position is based in Scotts. Both domestic and international travel are expected. The interpersonal nature of the job requires an in-person structure most days.

    Salary: ∼$100,000, commensurate with experience, plus benefits.
