Island Farm - Site Manager, Roanoke Island, NC
Overview
Island Farm is a living history site on Roanoke Island along the Outer Banks of North Carolina that interprets mid-19th century daily life. The site is centered around a circa 1847 homeplace (currently in the process of being listed on the National Register of Historic Places), associated reconstructed outbuildings and is surrounded by ten acres of productive gardens, permanent pasture, and forestland adjacent to the waters of Roanoke Sound.
The homeplace at Island Farm is one of the three oldest homes on the island remaining today, and the only antebellum home that is restored to its original condition and open to the public. Daily programming at Island Farm changes seasonally and includes blacksmithing, hearth cooking, traditional gardening, woodworking, historic trades, fiber art demonstrations, wagon rides, and more.
