    Position Title: Director of Interpretive Development

    Reports to: Senior Director of Interpretation

    Position Type: Year-round, full time (2,080 hours)

    WHO WE ARE: Genesee Country Village & Museum, located in Mumford, NY 25 miles outside of Rochester, is the largest living history museum in New York State. Our 68-building Historic Village, John L. Wehle Gallery, and Genesee Country Nature Center host nearly 100,000 guests each year on site, off site around the community, and online across the world.     POSITION OVERVIEW: Under the direction of the Senior Director of interpretation, the Director of Interpretive Development is responsible for the research, development, and implementation of interpretive programming.

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Interpretive Program Development

    • Lead and oversee research, development and implementation of interpretive manuals, exhibit text, interpretive signage, and other historical content for internal and external use.

    • Oversee the development and implementation of themed programs, workshops, and special event interpretation in collaboration with Event Managers and Interpretation Managers.

    • Manage and oversee the daily work of 20+ seasonal historical interpreters, providing work direction, constructive feedback, and other management support.

    • Support other departments as needed, including education, community engagement, and development needs.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Undergraduate- or graduate-level degree in History, Public History, or Museum Studies.

    • 3+ years of experience in museum education, interpretive programming, or museum interpretation.

    • Demonstrated ability to research and development historical content, manuals and/or training programs.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals of varying cultural backgrounds, identities, ages, and abilities.

    • Experience in staff supervision, mentoring, and developing and implementing staff training.

    SALARY AND BENEFITS:

    Salary: The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $54,000-$57,000 annually. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's qualifications, specific skills, and experience.
