    DESCRIPTION / POSITION OVERVIEW:

    Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site

    Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site is a Living History site that provides the visiting public withaccurate and engaging information about the history of the Pikes Peak region throughdemonstrations of period appropriate skills, chores, horticulture, and animal husbandry.

    Maintenance Technician II - Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site

    In this position, you will safeguard the health and safety of all Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Sitelivestock; ensure that they are effectively viewed and educationally interpreted for all visitors; andoversee the museum’s horticultural operation. You will also care for the historic buildings, farmmachinery, fields, and gardens; participate in interpreting the history of the Pikes Peak region todiverse audiences using a variety of techniques; provide exceptional customer service.

    Essential Job Functions

    - the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:

    Care for the health, safety, and cleanliness of all animals

    Recommend and oversee the acquisition and removal of livestock based on health,temperament and program requirements

    Train livestock and personnel involved in the handling of livestock

    Maintain fences, gates, feed troughs, barns, and outbuildings

    Perform semi-skilled duties necessary for the maintenance and repair of historic buildings,structures, roads, drainage systems, grounds, trails, and related systems

    Maintain the physical cleanliness of the agricultural and historical program equipment,grounds, and buildings; ensure the general cleanliness and safe conditions of all buildingand facilities; perform safety and vandalism checks; remove trash and debris; and completejanitorial duties

    Perform field inspections; assess necessary repair and maintenance work; estimate time,materials, and equipment required for assigned jobs; requisition materials; and monitor andmaintain supply inventory

    Ensure that all work is completed in a timely fashion and in compliance with all City policies,procedures, and preservation guidelines

    Suggest and implement farm-focused earned revenue activities such as workshops,demonstrations, and online videos to increase engagement of audiences

    Serve as a resource and role-model to lower-level co-workers, contract staff, temporary andseasonal personnel

    Continually improve the historical authenticity of the museum; participate in the general andreservation based programming

    Ensure compliance with all safe work practices and procedures; review completed work foraccuracy and proper work methods and techniques

    Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information and explain Citypolicies and procedures to the public

    We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:

    Knowledge of 19th century woodworking

    Knowledge of blacksmithing

    Knowledge of pertinent safety and regulatory requirements, including trail safety standards

    Knowledge of the history of the Pikes Peak region

    Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

    Ability to safely and effectively use various hand and power tools

    Ability safely and effectively operate assigned tools, equipment, and vehicles, includingsnow plows, front-end loaders, backhoes, and dump trucks

    Ability to provide information within area of assignment

    Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing

    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

    SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

    Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a levelnecessary for successful job performance

    Three years of full-time experience related to grounds maintenance

    Possess a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction relatedto alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges

    IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL ALSO HAVE:

    Specialized training related to this position

    Experience working at a living history or agricultural site

    Experience leading the work of others

    Experience farming with draft horses

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

    This position requires that you are available for emergency callout.

    Physical Demands:

    Period clothing will be provided and must be worn when necessary.Employees may be required to purchase limited items at their own expense.

    The ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods; lift and carry 50 pounds occasionally and25 pounds frequently; pull, reach, bend, climb, and kneel; use fingers, both hands, and both legs;distinguish colors; and safely operate assigned vehicles and equipment is also required.

    Environmental Conditions

    Primary Work Environment - Field/shop environment around machinery, moving vehicles, andfarm animals

    Extreme Temperature - Several times per month

    Wetness and Humidity - Seasonally

    Respiratory Hazards - Several times per month (dirt, dust, gases/fumes, odors)

    Noise and Vibrations - Several times per week

    Physical Hazards - Several times per month (toxic chemicals)

    Mechanical and/or Electrical Hazards - Frequently (electrical currents)

    Exposure to Communicable Diseases - Rarely
