     Job Description:
    Under the direction of the Museum Supervisor, is responsible for assisting with the planning, marketing and delivering of Fort Nisqually Living History Museum's special events and for managing the volunteer program, training and coordination. 

    In the performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees are expected to conform to the following:

    • Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
    • Interact professionally with other employees, customers and suppliers.
    • Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.
    • Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
    Essential Duties:
    Maintain and strengthen the event program's commitment to the Fort's mission of interpretation.

    Annually review existing special events performance and preserve the elements that the volunteers and the public respond to, while changing/adding activities that provides new opportunities for interpretation and public engagement.   Explore and implement new special events based on strategies recommended in the Strategic Master Plan, Mission Led Comp Plan, Fort Nisqually Business Plan and current Fort Nisqually Master Plan. 

    Train and provide work direction to volunteers, re-enactors and interns; provide training on proper use of equipment or artifacts; provide training on proper procedures; oversee and review work to assure the proper delivery of event support.

    Assist in planning, promoting, and implementing the museum's annual special events in accordance with adopted budget and work plan for both general fund and any Fort Nisqually Foundation events, where applicable.

    Plan for special events including setting the calendar (by end of June for the next calendar year); listing events/booking facilities in registration system; providing event information to volunteers, recruiting and assigning volunteers (30-150, depending on event), establishing, designing, and printing event programs, acquiring event supplies as needed, reviewing Fort site for needed clean-up/preparations, contracting with vendors as needed for event support, advertising for and recruiting artists, organizing the schedule, completing agreements with artists, maintaining contact with the artists, preparing site for artists as needed, and arranging for payment to artists and coordinating with Fort staff and MPT as needed for event support.

    Promote and market special events including writing press releases and submitting them to MPT for distribution; creating and managing event descriptions on Fort website; submitting event descriptions to on-line calendars; creating and posting event news to social media sites (e.g. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram); email blast to "Fort" list on week of event; creating annual event poster and distributing; creating seasonal event flyer for distribution at fort; creating event posters for posting at fort; providing event information to MPT for seasonal guides. 

    Provide special event implementation and oversight including coordinating site preparation with staff, volunteers, MPT, and vendors, as needed; providing day-of instructions and supplies to volunteers; supervising event activities and schedule with support from staff.
    Assist in the development and management of the annual budget for the program of responsibility; assist in monitoring the museum's revenues and expenses in compliance with the approved budget.

    Write, solicit articles, edit, and distribute monthly email newsletters: Fort Notes for volunteers, Fort News for Fort guests and FNF members. These include information upcoming events, as well as information about other volunteer activities, collections highlights, museum store activities, FNF news, and other fort-related information.

    Related public relations duties include building media relationships, TV guest appearances, developing video for social media, public presentations when requested, designing, and managing a-boards (which advertise the fort, its operating hours, summer camps, and events).
     Minimum Qualifications:
    Any combination equivalent to: Any combination equivalent to: Bachelor's degree in history or related field and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in event delivery and/or volunteer coordination.  Bachelor's degree and experience with living history preferred.

    Valid Washington driver's license.
    Obtain a valid First Aid and CPR Card within the probationary period.

    vehicles and up and down stairs.

    Contact with dissatisfied or abusive individuals.
    May work in close contact with wild and dangerous animals.
