Rehoboth Antiquarian Society Carpenter Museum
200-hour internship at approximately 15 hours / week
August/September 2019 – December 2019 /January 2020
The Carpenter Museum is seeking an Exhibit and Collections Research Intern to assist in investigating, writing, and designing an exhibit on the role of sports in the history of greater Rehoboth, Massachusetts. This hands-on exhibit and accompanying digital materials will explore the history of the Rehoboth Milkmaids, a softball team made up of young women from Rehoboth and surrounding towns during the 1930’s and 40’s. The exhibit and materials created for it will be used in local classrooms to provide an exciting opportunity for students to relate with these athletes and to make connections with broader political and social issues.
This opportunity is ideal for an enthusiastic student or early professional who is excited by local history and helping students make connections between their lives and the past.
The successful candidate will be detail oriented, organized, and self- motivated. Experience in research and exhibit writing is essential. Must be familiar with basic website editing and photography. The intern will must be able to work with and meet deadlines, lift up to 40 lbs, and climb stairs and ladders. Preference will be given to candidates with or seeking a graduate degree in History, Museum Studies, or a related field and wishing to pursue a career in museums. Experience with PastPerfect Museum Software a plus.
Time Requirements and Location:
Intern will report to the Carpenter Museum in Rehoboth, MA. The 200 hour internship will be completed Tuesday-Thursday at 15 hours a week with a flexible a flexible schedule. Total stipend is $2,500 to be paid in four installments of $625 with each completion of 50 hours worked. Internship to be completed within window of August 26th, 2018 to January 30th, 2019.
