WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO DO IN THIS ROLE?
You will:
•Act as a leader for various teams working at Cook’s Tavern (Taverne Cook) Livery and Ross Farm (Ferme des Ross), with the Tow Scow (Quai de chaland), the winter barn and support Alight at Night Programming
•Interpret and portray the role of an 1860’s Livery Worker
•Oversee and direct the animal husbandry program associated with Cook’s Tavern Livery
•Support Upper Canada Village programming and guest relations initiatives
•Act to ensure the safety of visitors and staff and to protect the resources of the site
•Embody the SLPC’s equity, diversity and inclusion principles while interacting with staff and guests.
HOW DO I QUALIFY?
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
You have:
•Working knowledge of practical farming operations and livestock care, including farriering
•Knowledge of historical interpretation techniques, methods, and goals
•Good understanding of the social, economic and political environment of the 1860’s, including the historical context of all activities of the unit
•The ability to observe evidence of illness in livestock and research treatment options
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
You have:
•Strong oral communication skills to provide information to the public and train staff working in the unit
•Written communication skills to maintain records for the unit and relay messages to staff, the public and vendors
JUDGMENT, ORGANIZATIONAL AND ANALYTICAL SKILLS:
You have:
•The ability to monitor and evaluate public programming goals, expectations and deliverables
LEADERSHIP, PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND RESEARCH SKILLS:
You have:
•The ability to undertake research and to direct and instruct staff about the operations of mid-nineteenth century farms
•The ability to act as a team leader and motivate, organize, train, monitor and evaluate staff in the completion of their duties
OTHER SKILLS:
You have:
•The ability to perform farm work, both indoors and outdoors, such as driving a tractor, operating barn equipment and farm implements
•Excellent horse driving and horse training skills related to single, double and four horse hitches
