    Job Description:

    Engage the public daily with accurate educational content, demonstrations, exhibitions, and hands-on activities that increase public knowledge of the origins, formation, spread, and enduring importance of American frontier culture. Work in costume at one of the Museum's historic farm sites, perform work including cooking, cleaning, textile processing, gardening and animal care and offer information to guests about the farm as assigned. Be able to learn new farm tasks and read historical materials related to the Museum's interpretive plan.

    Dependability, flexibility, positive and professional demeanor with the public and peers, outstanding oral and written communication skills; ability to interact effectively with all age groups; strong organizational and time management skills. Knowledge of interpretive principles and methods, cultural and social history, ability to work as a part of a team; ability to perform moderate physical labor including, but not limited to, garden and field work and general farm and household work; ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, and to lift up to fifty (50) pounds unassisted; ability to work outdoors in a range of temperatures and weather, and in smoky and dusty conditions.

    Bachelor’s degree in appropriate field from college or university preferred; considerable demonstrated interpretive skills or a combination of knowledge and experience will substitute for degree at the discretion of the agency.  Skill and experience in traditional arts and crafts, vocal or instrumental music or trades and the ability to demonstrate the same before the public is preferred.
