Historic Interpreter Entry Level
The Land Between The Lakes Association invites applications for the position of Historic Interpreter Entry Level at the Homeplace. The Land Between The Lakes Association is a private, nonprofit (501-c-3) partner to the USDA Forest Service at the Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area. The position is located at our main office at 345 Maintenance Road, Golden Pond, KY. This position IS NOT a federal job. This is a full-time NON-SEASONAL position.
Qualification: Applicant possessing 4-year college degree and some related experience preferred. Applicant possessing National Association for Interpretation credential Certified Interpretive Guide or Certified Heritage Interpreter is a plus.
Duties performed in this position include but are not limited to: The incumbent of this full-time position primarily functions as a living history interpreter on an active mid-19th century farm with 16 restored log structures. Interpreter (Interp) conducts programs which may include guided walks, demonstrations, environmental education activities, illustrated talks, roving interpretation, or first-person portrayals. Interp may demonstrate Agricultural tasks, gardening work, or tool use on historic farm. Interp may demonstrate 19th century domestic work including wood stove and hearth cooking, spinning, weaving, domestic trades, gardening, and special events for the general public and organized groups. Interp serves as host to visitors, carrying out a variety of duties related to sharing necessary information with the visitor to LBL. Interp should possess a helper spirit to support the extended staff of the HP in its efforts to serve the public. The successful candidate must be available for varied schedule with weekend and holiday work, have a warm and enthusiastic demeanor, be team-oriented, and quality customer service driven.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate knowledge and proficiency with the following: generally accepted Interpretation techniques and positive customer service techniques.
Hourly wage is commensurate with tasks required, qualifications and experience. It is $14.30 per hour plus paid time off and health reimbursement (no health insurance provided).
