    Job Title: Director (Historical Facility Manager, III)

    Location: Pioneer Woman Museum, Ponca City, OK

    Parent Organization: Oklahoma Historical Society (OHS)

    The Pioneer Woman Museum was established in 1958. The museum sets in a 14-acre park that includes the Pioneer Woman statue, a heroic bronze sculpture of a young, sunbonneted, pioneer mother and her son. The 17-feet tall bronze was dedicated in 1930.

    The museum property and collections are owned by the State of Oklahoma/OHS. Operation of the museum is a partnership between the Oklahoma Historical Society and the Pioneer Woman Museum Advisory Board. The local board generates funding to cover operating costs, and the OHS funds staff and repair and maintenance.

    Key Duties:

    • Oversee day-to-day operations of the museum including supervision of staff and volunteers of the Pioneer Woman Museum.
    • Development of strategic plans for the advancement of the museum.
    • Oversee operation of the gift shop including product purchases; oversight of the budget; accounts payable and receivable and artist consignment program.
    • Reporting maintenance and repairs problems and overseeing all scheduled work.
    • General oversight of museum collections management.
    • Fundraising for special events, exhibits, and maintenance and restoration projects.
    • Maintain open communication and cooperation with local support group and community and serve as a bridge between the local advisory board and the Oklahoma Historical Society.
    • Development and implementation of educational programs appropriate to the site. 
    • Responsible for public relations including social media.
    • Frequent weekend work required

    Must have knowledge of accepted museum practices including collections management, and an understanding of interpretation methods as well as an understanding of basic accounting practices and principles of supervision.

    Necessary skills include establishing and maintaining effective working relations, communicating effectively both orally and in writing; ability to analyze complex historical information and present the key concepts in an engaging way. Must be proficient with technology including use of computers, virtual programming formats, and social media. Must have the ability to prioritize multiple projects, delegate tasks and monitor performance.

    Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor’s degree in history, anthropology, archaeology or a closely related field and two years of experience working at a historic site or museum; or a master’s degree in history, anthropology, archaeology or a closely related field; and one year of experience working work at a historic site or museum; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of experience in a museum or historic site for each year of the required education. Previous supervisory experience is a requirement.

    Salary: $2,653.99 - $4,865.64/month with Oklahoma public employee benefits.
