Animal caretaker and site maintenance – Historic Latta Plantation, Huntersville NC

    Schedule: Between 20 and 30 hours per week Monday-Friday year round.  Most hours will be in the AM so that the animals are feed and turned out by 9:30. 

    Job Summary: The person in this position will be responsible for the well-being of the farm animals here at Historic Latta.  The animals include but are not limited to; a cow, a mule, a donkey, Cotswold sheep, hogs, chickens, turkeys, and a cat.  Applicant needs to know how to trim hooves on both equine and sheep.  Sheep shearing will be required as well.  Other duties include being responsible for the general maintenance of the site.  This includes split rail fence building/repair and minor repairs to buildings onsite.  A general knowledge of history is appreciated but not required. 

    Qualifications: Must have experience with large animals and willing to learn historical information about animals and demonstrate it to general public.  Ability to perform physical tasks (minimum strength requirement-50 pounds).  Work environment requires standing, working in heat/cold/inclement weather, and contact with livestock.  Must be able to communicate information and demonstrate it to general public.  Must be willing to work a flexible schedule.  A criminal background check is required.
