DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Bachelor’s degree in history, American studies, humanities, anthropology, public history, museum studies, education, performance, business or related field
At least 5 years of full time experience in costumed-Living History interpretation
At least 5 years of full time experience in management and supervision
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of American history, obtained through coursework or on the job
Knowledge of museum terminology and programs
Knowledge of strategic planning for museum education program development
Knowledge of grant and proposal research and writing
Knowledge of preparing and maintaining budgets
Ability to plan, develop, implement and evaluate educational and visitor service and outreach programs
for local and statewide audiences of state history museum.
Ability to direct, supervise and evaluate staff of the Programming section
Ability to communicate effectively, in written and oral presentations
Ability to communicate with diverse individuals and groups in different settings
Ability to market and promote museum education programs and events
Ability to understand and apply pertinent rules, regulations, policies and procedures
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
Ability to use computer for word processing, research, preparation of plans, reports, presentations and database management
Ability to work effectively in stressful situations
Ability to work a flexible schedule when programs or special events are scheduled, including weekends or evenings and holidays
Ability to travel to present workshops, attend professional meetings, and consult with museums and groups, including travel that may require you to be gone several days
Ability and willingness to take additional training courses
Ability to learn first aid skills
Ability to assist with setting up and taking down supplies and furniture
Ability to refrain from smoking on the premises. It is a “No Smoking” site which includes all outdoor areas.
PREFERRED (NOT REQUIRED) KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Master’s degree in history, American studies, humanities, anthropology, museums studies, education, performance, management or related field preferred.
