    Living history museum seeks part time, weekend interpreter

    Position Function: To interpret late 18th century salt marsh tenant farm, garden, and animal husbandry

    Supervised by: Executive Director and Associate Director


    Primary Duties:

    • Represent Coggeshall Farm Museum (CFM) with a positive, respectful, and courteous attitude and demeanor with other staff and the public at all times
    • Collect admission and assists visitors in the museum store
    • Know and follow appropriate emergency procedures set forth by CFM
    • Complete additional tasks, not specifically set forth in the job description, as required by supervisors


    • Conduct school tours, regular daily tours, workshops, and special events programming
    • Demonstrate 18th century skills, farm chores, and associated knowledge
    • Work on and interpret the 18th century farm, gardens, and animal husbandry to visitors of all ages
    • Provide the visiting public with informative, accurate, and engaging information about Coggeshall Farm Museum, and the history of Bristol, RI during the 18th century
    • Demonstrates self-motivation towards engaging visitors, and utilizing down-time in a productive manner

    Farm Duties

    • Assist with care for the health, safety, and cleanliness of all animals
    • Assist with basic maintenance of all structures and farm fields
    • Maintain a clean and organized work space within the museum store, historic farmhouse, exhibit areas, and work yard
    • Assist with set up, organization, and demonstration for special events including Wool & Fiber Festival, Harvest Festival, and other events
    • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors


    • Knowledge of farm animal husbandry or ability to learn
    • Minimum 2 years experience with agricultural presentations, preferably at a historic site is preferred
    • Experience with school tours, outreach programs and special events is preferred
    • Successful work experience and/or college experience
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends
    • Support Coggeshall Farm Museum’s mission, policies and procedures as outlined in staff handbook
    • Demonstrate professional behavior, reliability and dependability
    • Work well in a team especially in areas of communication, responsibility, and problem-solving
    • Physically able to lift 40 lbs, and be on your feet for 2 hours at a time
    • Possess a valid driver’s license with a clear driving record
    • Ability to pass child abuse and criminal record checks

    Working Conditions

    • This position is a part-time position, but may develop into full time seasonally. Weekends are required.
    • The position includes physical labor, in varying weather conditions.
    • Must possess the ability to use or learn to use 18th century farm equipment
