Description:  The Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation, an eighteenth-century living history farm, seeks creative, outgoing and motivated individuals for part-time, seasonal work (roughly March through December.)   The site interprets everyday life in Southeastern Pennsylvania during the time period 1760-1790 with a focus on costumed, hands-on living history interpretation.  Programs include school field trips, summer camps, outreaches, scouting programs and more.  Hours vary based on programming schedule; occasional weekends may be required.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Strong interest in and familiarity with Pennsylvania and eighteenth century American history.  Degree in American history, education, or related subject preferred.
    • Ability to memorize and present historical material accurately and engage large and diverse audiences.
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule and be available a minimum of two weekdays per week.
    • Maintain a professional appearance and decorum.  This includes willingness to wear period-appropriate attire and maintain a historically accurate appearance.
    • Have reliable attendance and punctuality.  Reliable transportation a must.
    • Must be able to work creatively and effectively as member of a team.
    • This work can be physically demanding.  Ability to lift 40 lbs, be outside in all kinds of weather, and walk over rough terrain is expected.  Position may require interaction with livestock.
    • A criminal background check, FBI fingerprint clearance and child abuse clearance is a requirement for employment.

Benefits:  Historical Educators are seasonal, hourly part-time employees without traditional benefits.  Training in new skills and trades, such as spinning, colonial cooking, weaving, blacksmithing, etc. is offered and encouraged.  Direct deposit of paychecks is required for all new employees.

Positions are open until filled and multiple positions are available.  Interested applicants should email a cover letter and resume to Jennifer Green, Director of Education, at education@colonialplantation.org.
