Paid internship positions available in 2019 at Living History Farms in Urbandale, Iowa--Seeking Historical Interpreters and Day Camp Counselors
· Classified as temporary, part-time hourly, non-exempt, with hourly wage of $6.35; interns also receive Six hours of college credit through Graceland University tuition free
o In order to receive the credit, the intern must successfully complete all required internship assignments, including a project and required number of interpretation work hours.
o Fees associated with tuition paid for by Living History Farms
o Intern must pay for transfer of college transcript to his or her original school, if they are not a Graceland University student
Historical Interpreters: This position involves explaining through demonstrations and interactions with the public the history and trends in agriculture and rural life in the Midwest. A majority of the time, this person will be working outdoors, while wearing clothing issued by Living History Farms that reflects the clothing of the time period. The intern will work at some combination of the following: historic Flynn Mansion, 1700 Ioway Farm, 1850 Pioneer Farm, 1900 Horse-Powered Farm, Tangen House, Elliot Millinery Shop, Advocate Printing Office, Walnut Hill Broomworks, and/or the Wallace Exhibit Center.
12 weeks, May 20 – August 11, 2019, averaging 30 hours per week
Day Camp Counselors: Share your love of learning and exploration with youth of all ages as you work with likeminded colleagues to bring learning to life for the museum’s summer day camp participants! Expand your own knowledge as you work with groups of 8 – 12 youth in an outdoor setting. You will lead crafts, activities, games, and visits to various parts of Living History Farms, an outdoor living history museum. Living History Farms’ Day Camp Program is accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA).
Average hours per week: 35-40 hours per week, 8:15 - 4:45 daily, Monday through Friday, and 2 Saturdays- June 29 & August 17 Total of 12 weeks as follows: 2 weeks for training and orientation, May 20 – June 4, 10 weeks leading camp: June 5 – August 10
